Speaking on The Robbie Fowler Podcast, Kenny Dalglish says he’s been particularly impressed by the performances of Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams this season.

The young pair have had to fill-in at centre-back due to Liverpool’s well-documented injury problems at centre-half, and Dalglish believes they’ve done a great job since coming in.

“A couple of the young lads have come in and done particularly well, you wouldn’t have noticed what they were, they were only kids,” Dalglish said.

“Nat Phillips was on loan last season in the Bundesliga somewhere and he’s had a good season. The other one he went to Kidderminster Harriers on loan for a year, Williams went to Kidderminster Harriers on loan for a year and he’s come back and is playing Premiership.

“It’s a huge step up for him, it’s not so bad for Nat, but it’s harder for Rhys because the gap is huge, but he did well when he played, and to try and cover one position with three injuries is a big loss. Obviously for Liverpool they’ve got to get on with it and do the best they can, but I think they have done particularly well.”

It’s always great to get a glowing review from one of the greatest players to ever represent the club.

Williams and Phillips have done solid jobs at centre-half this term, and even if the arrivals of Ozan Kabak and Ben Davies see them fall down the pecking order, they deserve massive credit for what they’ve done for Liverpool.

No, they’ve not quite been at Virgil van Dijk’s level, but they’ve not looked out of place in a team that is still in a great spot to finish in the top four.

Dalglish is right to give them the credit they deserve.
