Roy Keane told Super Sunday on Sky Sports that David Moyes has done a ‘great job’ at West Ham but he’s ‘not a patch’ on Tottenham’s under-fire boss, Jose Mourinho.

Not even the most ardent of West Ham supporters would have predicted this, but the East London outfit may just finish about Tottenham this season.

If the Hammers secure Champions League football then, more than likely, they will be the top dogs in London, which is some achievement.

But when reacting to Mourinho’s forthright comments about his Tottenham players, Keane defended the outspoken coach and how other managers, such as Moyes, don’t touch him in the managerial stakes.

“What Mourinho said was right, that is down to the players,” said Keane. “It’s up to the fullback to stop the cross. It’s up to the midfielders to stay with the runners.

“We sit here every week and praise managers to the hilt. Every week we praise different managers for doing a great job

“We’ll be talking about Steve Bruce, Sean Dyche, all these managers, David Moyes doing a great job at West Ham.

“They are not a patch on Mourinho. They have done nothing in the game to what he has won. I think he’s been brilliant for the game.”

At the start of the season, and even now, many would say that Tottenham have a better starting XI and squad than the Hammers.

So, if Moyes ends up guiding the club to the Champions League, and Mourinho fails to do so in North London, then it will be difficult to see him prowling the touchline at Tottenham next season.

Whilst it’s easy to throw punches at Mourinho for the job he is doing at Tottenham, it needs to be remembered they hadn’t won away from home for a year prior to his arrival and they were sitting in the bottom half when Mauricio Pochettino was sacked.
