Last week, it was said that West Ham wanted to bring Tanguy Nianzou to the Premier League after losing Issa Diop to Fulham.

The Hammers shortlisted the Frenchman alongside Paris Saint-Germain defender Thilo Kehrer.

Now, Fabrizio Romano has delivered some definitive news on one of the two centre-backs.

What’s the story?

Well, the reliable Italian journalist believes Sevilla have now signed Nianzou.

The Spanish side have agreed a deal worth €20m (£17m) with Bayern Munich, although the German giants have negotiated a buyback clause.

Nianzou has signed a contract running until June 2027.

So, West Ham have missed out on the 20-year-old defender, but it isn’t all bad news for the east Londoners.

The Hammers have now struck a deal with PSG for Kehrer, which is believed to be worth €16m (£13m).

It remains to be seen whether the Germany international was West Ham’s first choice, or if they were forced into a deal after Sevilla pinched Nianzou from them.

Nevertheless, both sides are getting themselves a talented centre-back from a European giant, so they can be pleased with their business.

Kehrer better for West Ham than Nianzou

In our view, Kehrer is a better fit for what David Moyes needs right now.

As things stand, West Ham find themselves in a bit of an injury crisis at the back.

Nayef Aguerd, Angelo Ogbonna and Craig Dawson are all in the treatment room, leaving Kurt Zouma as the only senior centre-back option available to Moyes.

Therefore, Kehrer – who boasts strong Champions League and international experience at the age of 25 – should help massively.

In contrast, Nianzou – who is only 20 – may have needed months to acclimatise to a new country, as well as adjust to what is arguably the hardest league in Europe.

Hopefully, Kehrer can shore things up for West Ham after back-to-back defeats in the Premier League.
