According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester City have completed the signing of Darío Ariel Sarmiento from Estudiantes.
The 18-year-old has been signed for a fee of $6 million plus another $12 million in add-ons, taking the total sum to $18 million (£13 million).
Sarmiento will go into the City Group, where he’ll presumably be loaned out to one of Manchester City’s feeder clubs, such as Troyes or Girona.
The promising teenager has put pen to paper on a five-year contract at the Etihad Stadium.
As per the terms of the deal, Manchester City must give 20% of any fee they receive from selling Sarmiento in the future to Estudiantes.
Now, given his lack of experience, you might not know much about the forward – we won’t lie, we didn’t know much either!
However, Goal provided a helpful report on the wonderkid, containing some interesting nuggets of information.
Firstly, they wrote that Alejandro Sabella – a club legend for Estudiantes – kneeled down when he first met Sarmiento, and told him he was going to be a star.
Goal also wrote that Sabella – a man who once coached Lionel Messi – exclaimed “Hallelujah!” when he first saw Manchester City’s new signing in action.
These are exciting times for Pep Guardiola’s side.
They have one foot in their first Champions League final, and their first-team is among the best in Europe, if not the best.
The Citizens are also clearly preparing for the future by hoovering up the best of the next generation.
Manchester City recently signed Brazilian wonderkids Kayky and Metinho, who may one day dominate the Premier League alongside Sarmiento.
