Speaking on his YouTube channel, Alasdair Gold has shared an update on Toby Alderweireld’s situation at Tottenham.
The defender was absent from the squad against Newcastle at the weekend, reportedly due to the fact that he’d missed his covid test after returning from international duty.
However, Gold has been asking some questions and doing some digging, and he’s been told that this wasn’t the case after all.
“Alderweireld not only was in photos on Thursday from training, but in a video on Friday was also shown in training. So for Mourinho to say that he wasn’t training until Saturday and that he didn’t do any training until the final day. I’m hoping we get clarity on Friday because it made no sense,” Gold said
“I’ve done a bit of digging, and I was told that Alderweireld had actually done his covid test on Wednesday, he was back and he did all that, so I don’t understand what’s gone on there. A lot of people inside the club are confused about it, and as I say, players are not too happy about it.”

This is very interesting to hear.
Something like a missed covid test would be easy for a well-connected journalist to find out about, so why would Mourinho say something that wasn’t true?
Perhaps it was just a slip of the tongue and he said Alderweireld alongside Aurier by accident, but that still doesn’t account for his absence from the Newcastle game, and if he’d been training, injury mustn’t have been the issue.
At the moment, Alderweireld’s situation remains something of a mystery.
