A golf course owned by Donald Trump will return to the PGA Tour calendar in 2026, with the Blue Monster at Trump National Doral set to host the Cadillac Championship.

Of course, the President of the United States has a huge passion for the game of golf.

Trump owns golf courses in his home country, as well as in Europe and Asia.

Bedminster was set to become the first venue owned by Trump to host a men’s major championship in 2022. However, the events of January 6th 2021 saw the following year’s PGA Championship moved to Southern Hills.

It remains to be seen if one of his courses does get the opportunity to host a major championship in the men’s game. Doral returning to the PGA Tour schedule in 2026 will be an encouraging sign.

And one of the courses in Trump’s portfolio has previously hosted one of the four biggest events of the year.

The Open Championship has been played at Turnberry on four occasions, most recently in 2009 when Tom Watson was beaten by Stewart Cink in a playoff. Trump became the owner of the venue in 2014.

Perhaps it is no surprise therefore, that when speaking about his own golf game in an interview with Today’s Golfer earlier this year, Trump opted for Turnberry as one of the courses he would play for the rest of his life if he had to pick.

He said: “To be honest, my own golf game probably isn’t as good as my courses, though if you’d asked me that question about a month ago I was playing the best golf of my life. But this month I’m not doing so well. It’s a tough game. Tough game. Having said that, I’ve played pretty well down the years and have won 18 club championships. So who knows?

“If I had to pick one course to play for the rest of my days it would be impossible to split between Turnberry and Aberdeen,” he added.

Could The Open Championship return to Turnberry in the future?

Aberdeen hosted the Scottish Championship on the DP World Tour in 2025.

And it seems Turnberry could be considered for a fifth Open Championship.

As noted by ESPN, there were concerns after 2021 about taking the event to one of Trump’s courses due to the fact that the focus was unlikely to be on the golf itself.

However, the report noted that the stance has since softened and Turnberry is being looked at for a future year.

Whether it has the infrastructure to handle hosting The Open Championship in this era is another matter.

Obviously, Trump would probably not hesitate to say that it would be absolutely perfect.
