Donald Trump has once again inserted himself into the Super Bowl conversation, voicing strong opposition to the NFL’s choice of halftime performers for this year.

Trump’s comments have added a political edge to what is usually framed as a celebration of music and sport.

The current US president made his feelings clear when discussing the league’s entertainment direction for the showpiece event.

Donald Trump blasts Super Bowl 2026 halftime performers

Speaking about the halftime show, Trump openly criticised the NFL’s decision to feature Bad Bunny and Green Day.

“I’m anti-them. I think it’s a terrible choice. All it does is sow hatred. Terrible,” Trump stated.

Trump’s remarks came as he confirmed he would not attend Super Bowl 60, citing distance as a factor while also making clear his dissatisfaction with the entertainment lineup.

The comments quickly drew attention due to the political history associated with both performers.

Bad Bunny and Green Day’s history of opposing Trump

Bad Bunny has previously been outspoken in his criticism of Trump, particularly during Trump’s presidency. The Puerto Rican artist condemned the federal response to Hurricane Maria and publicly criticised Trump’s rhetoric and policies toward Puerto Rico, using both interviews and social media to voice his opposition.

Green Day, meanwhile, have a long-established record of political commentary, including direct criticism of Trump. Frontman Billie Joe Armstrong has repeatedly spoken out against Trump’s policies at concerts and in interviews, while the band has altered lyrics during live performances to reference Trump-era politics.

The NFL’s selection of Bad Bunny and Green Day therefore, places artists with well-documented anti-Trump positions at the centre of one of America’s most-watched sporting events.

As Super Bowl 2026 approaches, the focus is likely to remain split between the action on the field and the cultural debate surrounding what the halftime show represents.
