U.S. President Donald Trump awarded Spain the World Cup trophy and was on the podium alongside them as they celebrated, despite complaints.
Trump was visibly seen being escorted off-camera during Spain’s World Cup celebration by FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
The President featuring in most of their celebration photos has been a result of that, but the official photo that Spain intends to use to celebrate their win won’t feature the head of state.

Most pictures of the World Cup celebrations in the early moments, such as the lifting of the trophy, featured Trump and Infantino at the dais alongside the Spanish national team.
As the celebration got underway, Infantino can be seen visibly prompting Trump and leading him away to let the celebrations continue.
The final picture that Spain used across their social media platforms to announce their win featured neither Presidents, with the focus entirely on the players that brought home their second World Cup win.
While being handed the trophy by the President of the host country and FIFA’s President is standard and should be considered a huge honor, the head of state is rarely seen partaking in the celebrations.
The only exception for this might be when a team wins a World Cup at home, and the Head of State celebrates with players from his own country.
However, successfully hosting a World Cup is a challenge, which might lead to overzealous moments like the one from Trump or even moments from the 2022 World Cup Final celebrations.
Ultimately, the moment belongs to Spain and they should honor the players and coaches that brought home the trophy after 16 years, and not anybody else.
