Well, Daniel Levy has done it again for Tottenham Hotspur it seems.
Spurs haven’t been forced into making bargain-basement signings in recent years, because the money’s been there.
Last summer, they broke their club record on signing Tanguy Ndombele for £63 million and a few years before that, they splurged £42 million on Davinson Sanchez.
Tottenham have been operating on a greater financial footing in recent years, but Levy’s been forced to work some magic again as a result of the global health crisis – and he’s done just that.
The North London club unveiled Matt Doherty this morning and according to Football London, they spent only £13.4 million on signing him from Wolves.
To put that into context, it’s £1.4 million more than what they received for Kyle Walker-Peters when he joined Southampton earlier in the summer.
Doherty is a proven Premier League player and only Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold was involved in more goals than him last season, in terms of right-backs.
In addition to that, the Irish defender has missed only seven games for Wanderers over the past four seasons.
In short, this is an exceptional piece of business by Tottenham and some fans of the Lilywhites are gushing over Levy’s astuteness on social media today:
