Monk is being linked with a move to Sunderland after leaving Leeds United.
Former Sunderland midfielder Don Hutchison
Don Hutchison has urged Sunderland to appoint Garry Monk after the 38-year-old resigned from Leeds United on Thursday.
Monk led Leeds to the brink of a play-off place in last season’s Championship, which was his first in charge at Elland Road.
And Sunderland, along with fellow managerless sides Middlesbrough and Crystal Palace, have found themselves immediately linked with a move for the former Whites boss.

Middlesbrough are the current favourites to secure Monk’s signature with the bookies, and Hutchison believes old side Sunderland would be missing a trick if they didn’t bring him to the Stadium of Light instead.
The former Scotland international from Gateshead posted on Twitter:
Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes is the current bookies’ favourite to succeed David Moyes at Sunderland, and the Chronicle reported this morning [Friday] that he, along with Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Paul Lambert, is firmly in the running as the Mackems look to start the interview process next week.

The report adds Sunderland could also seek contact with Monk – something Hutchison will certainly hope is true.
