Don Hutchison has suggested on social networking site Twitter that Everton should have signed Jamie Vardy from Leicester City in the summer transfer window.

Everton recruited a number of players in the summer transfer window, including attacking midfielders Davy Klaassen and Gylfi Sigurdsson, goalkeeper Jordan Pickford and defender Michael Keane.

However, the Toffees failed to properly address the departure of Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United in the summer.

Although Everton signed Sandro Ramirez from Malaga, the Spaniard is not at the level yet of Belgium international striker Lukaku.

Former Everton midfielder Hutchison has suggested on Twitter that the Toffees should have signed Vardy from Leicester.

The England international striker, who was a key figure for Leicester in their Premier League-winning campaign of 2015-16, has scored five goals in nine league appearances for the Foxes so far this season.

Meanwhile, Arsenal legend Ian Wright has given his take on Ronald Koeman’s departure from Everton in The Sun.

Koeman was dismissed by Everton this week following a run of poor results in the Premier League and in the Europa League.

“Of course if you are losing matches, there isn’t going to be a lot of laughing and joking about the place but Everton has seemed an unhappy club all season,” Wright wrote in The Sun.

“Some have said the team wasn’t playing for the manager, and only they will know that. But there clearly wasn’t any sort of close relationship.

“There has been a lack of connect — and for a club that has always been based on such, that’s very worrying. Whoever gets the job now needs to bring it back sharpish.”
