Don Hutchison was blown away by the performance of Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye recently in a defeat to Arsenal, comparing him to Chelsea and France sensation N’Golo Kante.

Gueye, 29, is a mainstay in the Toffees starting XI and has become a key player at Goodison Park since he joined two years ago from Aston Villa.

The Senegal international has managed to fit into the new side until manager Marco Silva and is a combative enforcer in the centre of the park.

Hutchison has compared Gueye to Kante, who won the World Cup with France in the summer and is the benchmark right now for defensive midfielders in world football.

“I saw a top performance from Gana against Arsenal,” Hutchison told the club’s official website.

“His side was away from home at a tough place to play and he was commanding. I thought he got around the pitch really well and was snappy in the tackle, which I like – that is his game.

“I think he is an excellent holder in midfield, in the mould of N’Golo Kante. His stats are incredible. He wins tackles – and wins the ball high up the pitch.

“It is very important for this Everton side to have a player with Gana’s qualities.

Everton’s Gueye has been compared to Kante frequently in the past couple of years and both are vital cogs to their respective teams.

Gueye is beginning to strike up a good understanding with Tom Davies in the midfield and they are now preparing for a clash with Fulham at the weekend.

He is a 5ft 7in ace that is widely appreciated by Everton supporters for his influence in matches and should now be in the peak years of his career.
