Following the departures of a number of strikers, West Ham United dipped into the German market and secured the services of Eintracht Frankfurt hitman Sebastien Haller.
BBC Sport pundit Don Hutchison has stated that Sebastien Haller might not be the type of signing West Ham United fans think he’s going to be, which is a 20+ goal striker.
The Hammers broke their club-record transfer fee when they snapped up Haller’s services for £45 million [BBC Sport], as they signed him from Bundesliga outfit Frankfurt.
There will be big pressures on Haller’s shoulders because in years gone by that centre-forward role hasn’t exactly worked out for those gracing Upton Park or the London Stadium.
Former Hammers midfielder Hutchison shared his thoughts on Haller and lauded his ability, but he did send a warning about what he might or might not deliver.
“They have got Sebastien Haller in from Frankfurt,” Hutchison told BBC Radio 5 Live. “He’s a very, very good player. I don’t think he’s the type of player that West Ham fans think he’s going to be.
“I don’t think he’s a 20 goal plus striker. He’s more like a Freddie Kanoute, who very physical, very talented, very laid back and very casual. But he’s got so much ability.”
One of Haller’s strongest abilities is his brute strength and that will come in handy in the Premier League.
There is some serious attacking talent at the London Stadium from summer purchase Pablo Fornals to winger Felipe Anderson.
It may just be a case of Haller might not score the 15+ goals, but he will improve and add goals to those players around him, which may just make Manuel Pellegrini’s team a better side.
