Arsenal were easily beaten by Manchester City this weekend.
Arsenal endured a torrid afternoon against Manchester City on Sunday as the Blues ran out comfortable 3-1 winners courtesy of goals from Kevin de Bruyne, Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus.
League leaders City were good value for their victory and moved 12 points clear of Arsene Wenger’s side as a consequence,. But questions will be asked about Arsenal after their defence failed to react prior to Jesus’s strike, even if the Brazilian was clearly offside.
When asked if the goal should have stood, pundit Don Hutchison admitted that the City man was ahead of the last defender but that Arsenal’s back line should have played to the whistle.
Alas that was not to be, and the third goal ensured a comfortable afternoon for a City side that continues to beat all who come before them.
There is still a long way to go, and the Christmas and New Year period could yet impact the title race with the matches coming thick and fast.
However given the gap opening up between sixth-placed Arsenal and the current runaway leaders, a late charge by the latter looks unlikely even at this early stage of the campaign.
