Don Hutchison has claimed that Leeds United boss Jesse Marsch looks ‘really angry’ this season, as he told Premier League Productions.

Over the weekend, as Leeds suffered a heavy defeat at Brentford, Marsch was sent to the stands for protesting at the referee’s call and Hutchison admitted that ‘I am getting sent off as well’.

Leeds felt they should have had a penalty, but the on-field referee and VAR, decided against awarding the away side what looked like a blatant spot-kick.

In the end, the Whites were humbled by a confident and ever-progressing Ivan Toney, who smoked in a hat-trick against the Yorkshire side.

Marsch has expressed his frustration from the sidelines on a number of occasions this season, including his heated exchange with Bruno Lage after Leeds’ clash against Wolves last month.

Either way, whilst Hutchison shared that he doesn’t condone Marsch’s actions, he understood why he was or has been so annoyed.

‘He has been really angry recently, hasn’t he?!” said Hutchison. “I am getting sent off as well. That’s definitely a penalty.

“The shirt pull is outside of the box. But Aaron Hickey carried it on inside the box, Summerville is trying to get away from him, then there is a pull of the arm and then a tap on the ankles.

“I think if you are Jesse Marsch, during that period of the game, then you are appealing to the referee.

“Yes, he went over the top with his verbals, which you don’t excuse, but manager’s, in the heat of the moment, he has lost his rag.”

VAR CALLS THIS SEASON

The officiating in the Premier League has hit a new low, and that’s saying something because it was at a pathetic level to start with.

Leeds have been on the wrong end of some pretty woeful calls, so Marsch has every right to express his anger from the sidelines.

The recently-concluded weekend of Premier League action also saw Newcastle denied a blatant goal and West Ham seeing a stoppage-time equaliser chalked off for a supposed foul on Chelsea goalkeeper, Edouard Mendy.

Either way, it’s not VAR or the technology that is the issue, but the people behind the screens or out on the pitch.
