Don Hutchison has revealed on Twitter that he told West Ham United to sign Gelson Martins from Sporting Lisbon 18 months ago.
Martins impressed again last night, despite Sporting’s 2-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid in the Europa League.
And Hutchison was thinking about what might have been at West Ham, if they had taken his advice.
Martins has now arguably become too well renowned for West Ham to sign.
The Portuguese winger has attracted the attention of some of Europe’s biggest clubs in recent times.
Martins has scored 12 goals and claimed 11 assists in his 43 appearances for Sporting this season.
West Ham, meanwhile, have struggled going forward on occasion, and Martins pace and skill would have made them much more of a threat.
