The Watford manager is many fans’ first choice to succeed Ronald Koeman at Everton.
Watford’s Marco Silva has emerged as a popular choice to succeed Ronald Koeman among Everton fans on social media.
Since arriving in English football in January the Portuguese coach came unexpectedly close to saving Hull City and has since led Watford to fifth in the Premier League, again against the odds.
A league winner with Olympiacos and cup winner with Sporting Clube de Portugal before then, Silva is also the name put forward by Jamie Carragher, the Everton supporter turned long-serving Liverpool defender, as well as others within the game.
Craig Burley, the former Scotland midfielder, is another to have recommended the 40-year-old, but according to Don Hutchison, Burley’s one-time international teammate who spent two years playing for Everton, the Toffees could be disappointed if they opt to pursue his appointment.
Replying to Burley on Twitter on Monday, Hutchison wrote:
Everton have named David Unsworth as caretaker manager, and it’s being speculated that they could persevere with their former defender on a longer-term basis as they seek the best possible hire.
