Everton would be wise to make a move for the young defender according to a former player.

Former Everton player Don Hutchison has taken to Twitter to express his surprise that Everton have not made a move for Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Jonathan Tar.

The 20-year-old has featured 20 times for the German side this season and he has a total of 65 appearances for the club having initially come through the ranks at Hamburg.

A loan move to Fortuna Dusseldorf kick-started his career in 2015 and he has not looked back since, excelling for Leverkusen and earning plenty of praise in the process.

Writing on social media on Wednesday afternoon, Hutchison said, “I can’t believe no one has moved for Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah yet! Manchester City, Liverpool, Everton especially.”

The Toffees could certainly do with a young, talented centre-back to replace the ageing Phil Jagielka and form an effective long-term partnership with Ashley Williams.

That said, with a contract until the summer of 2020, Tah will not come cheap, if at all.

Everton certainly have the money to spend big if necessary and they may be wise to act on Hutchison’s recommendation before someone else does.
