Liverpool are back in the Champions League final once again as they remarkably beat Barcelona 4-0 at Anfield on Tuesday night.

After losing 3-0 to a Lionel Messi-inspired Barca side last week, Liverpool’s hopes looked slim. Their chances were seemingly only damaged by injuries to both Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah.

However, Divock Origi stepped up in their absence, and gave Liverpool the ideal start to the game as he scored from close range with just six minutes on the clock.

It took a little while for Liverpool to add to their tally, but two goals came quickly as half-time substitute Georginio Wijnaldum grabbed a couple of goals to level the tie up at 3-3.

Origi once again seized his opportunity, scoring from close range after Trent Alexander-Arnold caught out the Barcelona defence with quickly-taken corner kick.

Liverpool saw out the final 15 minutes without giving Barca much of a chance to get back into the game, and 12 months after advancing to face Real Madrid in the final, the Reds are back on the grandest stage of them all.

Origi and Wijnaldum will take the plaudits for their goals, but anchor man Fabinho was absolutely sensational in midfield, justifying the £100,000-a-week wages (Spotrac) and £43.7million (The Telegraph) spent to lure him from Monaco last year.

The Brazilian was a defensive powerhouse in the middle of the park, and ex-Reds midfielder Don Hutchison took to Twitter last night to marvel at his performance over the two legs against Barcelona, showing exactly why he’s become such an important player at Anfield.
