St. Mirren manager Jack Ross is set to take over at Sunderland.
Former Sunderland midfielder Don Hutchison believes his old club should have appointed Black Cats legend Peter Reid as manager, with the relegated Championship side reportedly set to make St. Mirren’s Jack Ross their new manager.
The Guardian claim highly-rated manager Ross is set to take over from Chris Coleman at Sunderland, despite gaining promotion with his current side into the Scottish Premiership.
He will take over a side at the other end of the spectrum, who have suffered back-to-back relegations from the Premier League to League One, with Simon Grayson and Coleman both failing to keep the Wearside club in the second tier.
But Hutchison, who played for one season at the Stadium of Light during 2000-01, believes the club should have considered Reid who managed the club for seven years between 1995 and 2002.
Reid had been out of management since 2014, where he took over Indian Premier League side Mumbai City during 2014. The last English club he managed were Plymouth Argyle between 2010 and 2011.
Sunderland are expected to conduct a major overhaul of players this summer in order to reduce their Premier League wage bill to something more fitting for a League One side.
