Don Hutchison clearly loves both Newcastle United and Sunderland.

Don Hutchison has revealed on Twitter that he followed Newcastle United as a kid, but admits he has a deep affection for their North-East rivals Sunderland.

The Gateshead-born midfielder spent a year at Sunderland until 2001 and said that he loved his time at the Stadium of Light.

And although the former Scotland international admits he used to frequent St James’s Park as a youngster, Hutchison can’t lie that he has a huge affinity for Newcastle’s bitter local rivals – but he says loves both clubs.

The 46-year-old also enjoyed spells with West Ham United, Liverpool and Everton during his time in the Premier League.

Newcastle are preparing for their first season back in the Premier League following a year-long stint in the Championship, comfortably winning promotion back to the top flight.

There will be no Wear-Tyne derby in the league, however, after Sunderland were relegated from the top flight under David Moyes last season.

Still, a club of that size, the Black Cats will certainly expect to follow United’s example and bounce straight back into the big time.
