The ex Anfield midfielder made the controversial suggestion regarding the Reds captain when debating next season’s starting lineup.
Former Liverpool player Don Hutchinson has proposed a drastic alteration to the club’s starting lineup on his Twitter account, after Liverpool won their second pre-season friendly 2-1 on Friday, beating Brisbane Roar 2-1 in Queensland.
Two of the club’s midfielders contributed the Reds’ goals as Adam Lallana and James Milner helping Liverpool to the win, with it being the former Southampton man’s second goal in two games this summer.
After the game, Hutchinson was referring to a Sky Sports projection of what could be Liverpool’s side if they sign Christian Benteke next season, and the ex Scotland international agreed with the line-up, except for one major change.
Hutchinson would drop newly appointed captain Jordan Henderson from the starting line-up, instead, picking fellow England star Adam Lallana in his place.
Naturally, it got lots of Liverpool fans scratching their heads and getting in touch with the 44-year-old, thinking he had somehow forgotten that Henderson had just been made skipper.
But just to confirm, Henderson tweeted again making it clear that in his opinion, he would pick Lallana over Henderson in the Reds side.
With Henderson one of Liverpool’s best performers in the last couple of seasons at Anfield, and Lallana struggling to really impress during his first season at the club, it’s no surprise Hutchinson’s followers were baffled by his suggestion, especially considering he would also be picking Emre Can and Milner over the former Sunderland man.
