Former Wolves player Don Goodman has told SkySports News HQ he is not surprised to see the club sack manager Walter Zenga.

Wolves announced via their official website yesterday that Zenga’s contract had been terminated, days after a home loss to Leeds United.

Speaking to SkySports News HQ at 7pm (25/10), Goodman said: “I was surprised he was given the job in first place.

“There is a template for what it takes to succeed in the Championship, Wolves didn’t follow that template.

“Unfortunately for Walter he’s paid the price for a run of results which haven’t been great.”

After early promise, Wolves are down to 18th position, and had lost four of their last five matches.

Their last league win came back on September 24, and after the investment in big name players like Ivan Cavaleiro, more was expected.

The big decision facing them is whether they seek to appoint a manager with experience in the Championship, or follow the unsuccessful experiment trialled in giving Zenga the job, his first such role in English football.

Zenga has plenty of experience elsewhere, but a reputation for not lasting in his jobs. Sadly for him, he did not reverse this trend at Wolves.
