Leeds United picked up an impressive win in the Yorkshire derby with Championship rivals Barnsley at Oakwell.
Thomas Christiansen’s men may have not been best pleased about the prospect of travelling to Barnsley in the wake of their midweek thrashing by Wolves, given their poor record at the Tykes’ home.
However, an excellent performance from Leeds saw them move themselves up to eighth in the Championship table as goals from Saiz and Gjanni Alioski helped them to a 2-0 win over Paul Heckingbottom’s side.
And while Alioski was also extremely impressive the win – as were a number of his teammates – Goodman could think of only one clear standout performer when asked who his man of the match was, and that was Saiz.
“Looking at how good he’s been with the ball, but without the ball [he’s been just as good], chasing for it, fighting for it, protecting it. He’s chased, harried, tackled, tracked back. Outstanding.”
Saiz really has proved to be an inspired signing for Leeds this season, putting in brilliant performances in most of the games he plays even if the team do not appear to be at the races on that particular day.
But even when Christiansen’s men are at it, like they were against Barnsley on Saturday, the little magician arguably still manages to stand out as being the one player that opposition sides have failed to contain. And if he can continue his current run of form, it would be no surprise to see Leeds really put some serious pressure on that top six before the end of the campaign.
