Barnsley star Callum Styles has raved about international teammate Dominik Szoboszlai, calling the Liverpool man a ‘superstar’.

Liverpool have an absolute superstar on their hands after signing Dominik Szoboszlai over the summer.

That is the view of Barnsley ace Callum Styles, who has been speaking to Sky Sports about Szoboszlai.

That may sound pretty random; Styles hails from Bury, started his career with Burnley and then moved on to Bury, Barnsley and Millwall.

There is a connection here though, and it’s that Styles committed to play for Hungary in 2022, qualifying through his grandparents.

That means Styles and Szoboszlai are international teammates, and the Barnsley ace has heaped praise on the Liverpool star…

Liverpool star Dominik Szoboszlai hailed

Styles has now told Sky Sports that he loves playing alongside Szoboszlai for Hungary.

Liverpool pounced to sign Szoboszlai in a £60million move over the summer and he has been taking Anfield by storm.

Styles feels that Szoboszlai is just an absolute ‘superstar’, admitting that playing with him is just an ‘unbelievable’ experience.

Styles added that Szoboszlai has ‘got that different ability’ and believes the Liverpool star knows it.

The hope is that Hungary can secure qualification for Euro 2024, with Styles believing that ‘top player’ Szoboszlai can play a big role.

“Any experience is a good life experience and, if you do it well, you learn from those experiences and you adapt,” said Szoboszlai. “It takes time, but adding everything together piece-by-piece can only develop you as a player on and off the pitch. Playing with the likes of Dominik Szoboszlai is an unbelievable experience and I just love playing with players of his calibre.”

“He’s just a superstar. You just know he’s got that different ability – and he knows he’s got it as well, which is even better. He’s a top player and I feel like we’ve got a really good team. It’s just enjoyable winning games and hopefully getting to the Euros as well. That would be top,” he added.

My view: Szoboszlai has been ideal Liverpool signing

We are used to seeing a fairly workmanlike Liverpool midfield under Jurgen Klopp.

Fabinho, Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijnaldum is the most recognisable midfield trio in recent years, with no clear creative player in that triumvirate.

Liverpool went down a different route after Philippe Coutinho’s exit and Szoboszlai felt like the Reds finally adding another playmaker.

Szoboszlai has proven that idea right; only Bruno Fernandes, Kieran Trippier and James Maddison have recorded more key passes in the Premier League this season.

The 23-year-old is also doing great work off the ball though and isn’t afraid to get stuck in.

Szoboszlai certainly isn’t a luxury player and that combination of on-ball creativity and off-ball work rate is making him an ideal addition to the Liverpool midfield.
