Dominic Matteo believes that Celtic midfielder Scott Brown has been deserving of a Premier League switch.

Dominic Matteo has suggested that he is hugely surprised that Scott Brown has not been pursued by a Premier League club during his Celtic career, suggesting that N’Golo Kante’s impact in England proves that he could have thrived also, the Evening Times reports.
Brown is one of the most successful players in Scotland currently, having won seven Scottish Premiership titles and being included in the top flight team of the year on four previous occasions – with the first and most recent inclusions being separated by a decade.

However, the 32-year-old has spent his entire career in his home country, making almost 550 appearances in all competitions for Hibernian and Celtic. But Matteo has insisted that Brown has deserved the chance to prove himself in England, and while he is not comparing him with Kante, he believes that the Chelsea man’s emergence proves that Brown could have also made an impact.
“I am surprised that nobody in the EPL did take a punt on him. I feel that the position he plays is massive in British football,” he said, as reported by the Evening Times.

“The position he plays for Celtic and Scotland wins titles in England. That sitting, defensive midfielder who can break things up and give it and go.
“You only need to look at N’Golo Kante who did that at Leicester City and then Chelsea and he has won two Premier Leagues.
“I am not saying Scott is Kante but that position is very important within any squad, and certainly within the English Premier League.”
Though Brown has had his dips in form, there is no doubt that he has been a hugely influential figure for the Hoops since his arrival a decade ago, especially since Brendan Rodgers arrived and seemingly started bringing a number of younger players into the fold on a more regular basis.
And it is perhaps because Brown has performed his role so well in recent years in particular, that he has not been attracting more attention from clubs in the Premier League.
His consistency and reliability has allowed the rest of the side to play with a lot more freedom going forward. So while some of the Hoops’ attackers are grabbing the headlines, they perhaps partially have Brown to thank for the work he does behind them.
