Dominic Calvert-Lewin could soon tumble down the pecking order at Goodison Park, but it is up to him to remain in the manager’s plans.
Everton have keenly felt the absence of departed forward Romelu Lukaku this season, with each of Ronald Koeman, David Unsworth and Sam Allardyce lacking a true alternative.
And that has presented opportunities to Dominic Calvert-Lewin to step up and become a regular for the Toffees, having impressed in cameo appearances earlier in the year.
However, while Calvert-Lewin has indeed offered Everton a key outlet, it seems Allardyce is now looking to bring in a more prolific front man in the form of Turkey international Cenk Tosun – as reported by the Guardian.
The England youth international can hardly complain after scoring just three Premier League goals since August, but he must continue to work hard to ensure he remains in the first team picture.
Tosun may well take time to settle in England – as Sandro Ramirez has – and there will still be chances for a second striker to get minutes.
Calvert-Lewin now faces a crucial week in which fixtures against Bournemouth and Manchester United could be crucial to Allardyce’s decision on his immediate future.
It is vital that the young forward uses these two matches to show what he can do and then enter January in a position of strength, putting the pressure on prospective signing Tosun.
Allardyce would love to have a dilemma on his hands in the form of two fit and firing front men.
