Rangers suffered a blow in their quest to catch bitter Old Firm rivals Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership table last night.

Steven Gerrard’s side failed to win against Hibernian away from home at Easter Road and drew the league fixture 1-1.

The result means that Rangers are now seven points behind Celtic, who have a game in hand and are in action today.

Neil Lennon’s side will take on Aberdeen at Celtic Park in the Scottish Premiership this afternoon.

Celtic have the best team in Scotland and are in brilliant form at the moment, and they will head into the match against the Dons as favourites.

Aberdeen defender Ball, though, is confident that they can get the better of the Hoops this afternoon – and a win for them will keep Rangers’ slim hopes alive of winning the league title.

Andy Halliday of Rangers holds Tomas Rogic of Celtic during the William Hill Scottish Cup semi final between Rangers and Celtic at Hampden Park on April 17, 2016 in Glasgow, Scotland.

The 23-year-old had a loan spell at Rangers during the 2015-16 season from Tottenham Hotspur, and the defender seems to be ready to do Rangers a favour.

Aberdeen are third in the Scottish Premiership table at the moment with 50 points from 28 matches.

Ball told The Scottish Sun: “We’re not going to hold back and settle for third or fourth in the league. We’ve been second in the last four years and that’s always been the target.

“We’ve made it hard for ourselves with some poor results at home, but three points on Saturday will be a step in the right direction.

“Celtic are our most difficult opponent in the remaining away games, but we’ve beaten them down there before and we can do it again.”
