The Tottenham Hotspur defender joined a League One club on loan.

Gillingham announced the signing of Tottenham Hotspur lad Connor Ogilvie on loan this week.

The 21-year-old, who signed a two-year extension at Tottenham earlier in the week, will join the League One club for six months.

Despite signing a new contract with Spurs, it remains to be seen whether the young defender is up to the task of challenging for a spot in Mauricio Pochettino’s best XI at some point in the future.

One man who was deemed not good enough for the Lilywhites’ very high standard was Dominic Ball, who left the North London club to join Rotherham United last summer.

And the 21-year-old midfielder – who spent the second half of last season on loan in League One, with Peterborough United – has told his old team-mate to “go and smash it”.

It is likely that the North Londoners only extended Ogilvie’s contract in order to get money for him, if and when a club tries to sign him on a permanent basis.

The competition in Spurs’ senior set-up is fierce and, at 21, he would not be joining a League One side if he had a future under Pochettino.
