‘Dominant’: International thinks teammate would be quality signing for Tottenham

Chris Mepham has backed Joe Rodon to succeed if he does move to Tottenham Hotspur, as per his comments on BBC Sport.

Mepham, who is Rodon’s international teammate for Wales, knows what it takes to play in the Premier League, after representing Bournemouth last season.

And he insists that the centre-back would have enough quality to go and play for Tottenham, after being linked with Jose Mourinho’s side.

“He’s played a lot of games for Swansea now and has been putting in some really good performances. He’s definitely got what it takes to make the step up,” Mepham said, when asked about Rodon’s links with Tottenham.

“He’s very calm and composed on the ball and very confident in stepping forward. Defensively, he’s very dominant in the air and he’s quite a big lad so he imposes himself on the game.

“I think he has all the characteristics that any Premier League team would look for in a centre-back.

“If he does make the step up then I hope he does really well. I think he could be a good talent.”

Whether Rodon will sign for Tottenham now remains to be seen, but Mourinho’s side are thought to be keen on taking him.

Football London have reported how Tottenham want to sign the central defender, and are just trying to agree a price with Swansea for him now.

If Rodon does move to Spurs he will arrive with a lot to prove, having never played a Premier League match in his career before.

But he would add further depth to Spurs’s options at centre-back, with the likes of Eric Dier, Davinson Sanchez and Toby Alderweireld already at the North London club.
