The name Domenec Torrent may not mean all that much to Arsenal fans, but he could have been a Gunner less than a year ago.

Arsenal appointed Mikel Arteta as Unai Emery’s replacement back in December 2019, sparking a new era at the Emirates Stadium.

There were many rumours surrounding who would be part of Arteta’s coaching staff, and Torrent was one name linked.

The Daily Mail reported in December 2019 that Manchester City coach Rodolfo Borrell or fellow Spaniard Torrent were ‘likely’ to make the move to Arsenal to assist Arteta.

In the end, neither joined the Gunners, and Torrent actually took a new managerial job in July of this year having previously been in charge of New York City FC.

The 58-year-old landed a huge job, becoming the new Flamengo manager following Jorge Jesus’s return to Benfica – but it’s already over.

Despite winning 15 of his 26 games and losing just six, Torrent has lost his job as Flamengo boss today, with the club confirming his departure.

Torrent finds himself out of work, and if Arteta wants a familiar face – they worked together at City – then Torrent is very much available once again, with a return to coaching rather than management now very possible.
