Tottenham Hotspur and Everton are both reportedly interested in Besiktas defender Domagoj Vida as he continues to shine at the World Cup with Croatia this summer – but Vida should choose The Toffees.

The 29-year-old has starred for Croatia this summer in Russia, making four starts for the World Cup semi-finalists and even scoring in the 2-2 draw with hosts Russia – which saw Vida and co. win on penalties.

Tottenham have made a bid for the Besiktas defender, worth £15.9million according to A Spor, while Turkish Football say Everton have renewed their interest in Vida after being linked throughout the 2017-18 campaign.

If Vida does indeed get offers from both Spurs and Everton, there should only be one choice in his mind. Indeed, with Vida in the peak of his career, he needs regular game time to extend his career.

At Spurs, it is unlikely he is going to get that. Mauricio Pochettino’s side boast Jan Vertonghen, Davinson Sanchez, Toby Alderweireld and Eric Dier, and though he may be first reserve, he will still be used as cover.

But at Goodison Park, it is very much a different story. The Toffees are in desperate need of a powerful centre-back to take the side by the scruff of the neck and make them a more fearsome side to face.

Domagoj Vida of Croatia looks on during the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia Quarter Final match between Russia and Croatia at Fisht Stadium on July 7, 2018 in Sochi, Russia.

Indeed, Ashley Williams has been poor in an Everton shirt and has since been sidelined with a long-term injury, while Phil Jagielka is 36 in August. Michael Keane has hardly proved his £25million fee.

A move to Marco Silva’s side would see Domagoj become Everton’s first choice centre-back as they look to qualify for Europe next season by finishing in the top six of the Premier League.

Opting to join Spurs would begin the downfall of what can be a very successful career. Vida must make the right choice, and that is a move to Merseyside.
