Marcelo Pitaluga has looked solid in Liverpool training, according to Caomhin Kelleher on the club’s official website.
Looking good
Pitaluga joined Liverpool last year in a deal worth £2 million (UOL Esporte) after the Reds saw plenty of promise in him.
The 18-year-old youngster is yet to actually make his Liverpool debut, but there remains plenty of hope for him behind the scenes.
And Kelleher has suggested that the teenager has been performing well in first-team training recently.
“It’s been really good to train with him,” said Kelleher. “He’s been here nearly a year now so we know him quite well, but he had an injury so it was great to see him back in pre-season.
“He’s been doing really well – pushing on – and I think all the goalkeepers are quite close as a group. We train really well together and it’s a good group to be part of.”
Tough to break in
Kelleher, himself, knows how tough the route into Liverpool’s first-team is.
The Irish stopper is only back-up choice to Alisson right now, but he has established himself as the club’s number two.
Kelleher has impressed whenever he has been called upon, with his form earning him widespread credit.
Whether his place will come under pressure from Pitaluga in the coming years remains to be seen, but right now he is comfortably second choice behind Alisson.
The value of that position could be highlighted at the weekend, as Kelleher may well be called upon by Jurgen Klopp.
Alisson is not expected to return from international duty until late in the day, which may cause Liverpool to have to call upon Kelleher to step up against Watford.
