Ledley King has stated that Tottenham duo Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Oliver Skipp are ‘doing a great job’ for the team, as he told Sky Sports.

The former defender praised the three clean sheets Spurs have secured this season and he was keen to point towards the work of the players ahead of the back four rather than the backline itself.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are the only team with a 100% record and they are yet to also concede.

It’s not bad for a manager that was probably not even in the top five choices to replaces Jose Mourinho at Hotspur Way this summer.

Nonetheless, King was keen to point out that these opening games prove that the players are playing for their new boss.

“Three wins, and what has pleased me is three clean sheets as well,” said King. “We have started really well and the aim is to keep that consistency.

“We play Crystal Palace next, which is going to be a difficult game, but so far, it’s going to be a good start – you can see everyone is playing for Nuno.

“Everyone is putting a shift in for the team. That’s not just on the defenders to keep a clean sheet.

“The players in front of them are doing a great job in Pierre and Oliver Skipp, as well as the forward players. Everyone is working to help the team win games.”

The issue facing Spurs now is that Skipp hobbled off during England U21’s 2-0 win against Kosovo on Tuesday evening.

But he wasn’t the only one with injury scares over this international break, add Ryan Sessegnon, Steven Bergwijn and Heung-Min Son to that mix also.

Spurs fans will be hoping that, by the time they return to club action, they will be strapped, bandaged and ready to go.

If not then a few doors may open for individuals who are seemingly out of the picture in North London.

Tanguy Ndombele is the obvious one, especially if Skipp’s injury scare is a muscular problem because then he might find himself on the sidelines for a few weeks.
