Matt Doherty has told Tottenham’s official website that he finds Harry Kane annoying – because of his golfing ability. The Spurs defender also said that he believes the England skipper is the best player in the Premier League.

Kane, 28, picked up the man-of-the-match trophy on Sunday afternoon as Tottenham saw off the challenge of Newcastle to comfortably win 5-1. That is, despite failing to add to his 12 Premier League goals this season.

He did, however, pick up a third assist in two Premier League games – curling a low cross into the path of Doherty to head home. Doherty himself also got an assist for Emerson Royal’s effort, which was Tottenham’s fourth.

Speaking after the match, £15m (Standard) ace Doherty was full of praise for Kane – but also underlining how annoying he is at golf. Doherty believes Kane is the best passer, and the best finisher, in England’s top division.

“He’s the best player in the Premier League. Best passing, best finishing, the best everything. In golf, he’s the best player as well. Do you know how annoying that is? I’ve just said that on camera as well,” Doherty said.

Doherty on Kane: Can Tottenham star fire Spurs into the last four?

During the first half of the season, and then Conte’s early games in charge – there were two clear issues. Firstly, the form of Kane, and secondly, the win-lose inconsistency. But both problems seem to have been ironed out.

Kane is in the form of his life, both in front of goal and in terms of creativity. Not only that, but Spurs have seemingly ended that up-and-down form – winning six of their last eight Premier League matches.

Tottenham have a real chance of finishing in the top four if they can keep up their blistering form in the remaining eight matches – as well as Kane staying fit. Conte is squeezing every last bit of juice out of his side.
