Some Arsenal fans on social media have been criticising Mikel Arteta’s usage of Emile Smith Rowe against Benfica.

The attacking midfielder was pushed out to the left wing against the Portuguese outfit to accommodate for Martin Odegaard, and it’s fair to say that this tactical switch didn’t work.

Fans weren’t happy with Arteta’s decision to play Smith Rowe out of position, and we can understand why.

The youngster has been one of Arsenal’s best players for the past couple of months, but a new signing from Real Madrid has seemingly immediately usurped him in the number 10 spot, despite not doing very much to earn it.

Now, we’re not claiming that Odegaard is a bad player, as he’s clearly got bags of talent, but Smith Rowe really made that number 10 position his own since coming into the side, and now he’s been pushed out wide.

As you can imagine, some Arsenal fans weren’t best pleased with how he was used on Thursday, and they’ve taken to social media to vocalise their complaints…
