Rob Green has told the Football Show on Sky Sports News (07/10/20 at 10:55 am) that Marcelo Bielsa ‘doesn’t really care’ that he missed out on Michaël Cuisance’s signature.

The Daily Mail reported how Bayern Munich’s 21-year-old midfielder was due to join Leeds, but a failed medical resulted in the £18 million deal going under the category of ‘what could have been’.

Cuisance has since joined one of Bielsa’s former side’s, Marseille, and it could be argued that Leeds are potentially missing those extra legs in the middle of the park.

But former England goalkeeper, Green, thinks because of Bielsa’s qualities on the training field, he won’t be fretting about being light in that midfield department.

“It’s been an incredible start to the season and one if you watched Leeds before last season then it’s no great surprise,” Green told Sky Sports.

“They have added numbers in small amounts. I think it just goes to show how well they did last season in getting [promoted] when they didn’t have the strength in numbers. They have started this season flying.

“One position you would miss out on you would say is maybe Cuisance, the Bayern midfielder. The deal fell through and it’s left them short in central midfield maybe. But Bielsa doesn’t really care.

“He doesn’t really work like that. He will work with what he is given. He will make the best out of the players. Now that they have improved in quality, as well as numbers, that will be a huge improvement to that squad and they can take this forward and really give themselves a great chance.”

Leeds United’s record transfers

  1. Rodrigo (2020)

    £26 million

  2. Raphinha

    £21 million (2020)

  3. Rio Ferdinand (2000)

    £18 million

  4. Diego Llorente (2020)

    £18 million

  5. Helder Costa (2020)

    £16 million

All in all, it was a pretty strong transfer window for Leeds upon their return to the promised land and, so far, they are laying down their maker to others.

Even though Bielsa has come up against the Premier League champions and his student Pep Guardiola, those in Yorkshire are seemingly sending a bolt of shock wave across the league that Leeds mean business.

It could be argued that Bielsa’s aggressive, forward-thinking, gung-ho and fearless style is perhaps the most entertaining of any team in the Premier League so far this term.
