Joelinton has insisted that he has no problem with Eddie Howe altering his position at Newcastle United.
Newcastle spent £40 million on bringing Joelinton to St James’s Park as a striker during the summer of 2019.
A dismal goal return since then made it very difficult for the Magpies’ support to get behind him.
However, the big Brazilian has been playing a deeper midfield role for virtually all of Howe’s reign on Tyneside – and it’s working.
Joelinton has gone from being a questionable striker to an excellent attacking midfielder.
And the player himself is completely happy with Howe’s judgement.
He said of the Newcastle manager, speaking to The Chronicle: “It doesn’t matter whether as a midfielder, striker or any other role. I am available to the coach to give my best on the field in any position.”
Joelinton is an embodiment of Howe’s savviness in football.
As a striker he’s been an awful signing, but he’s very much a massive part of Newcastle’s resurgence since his position has been tweaked.
And long may it last.
That being said, Chris Wood, the striker who joined during January, has only managed one Premier League goal since arriving and Howe will need another hitman when the summer window opens.
