Patrice Evra gave his take on Arsenal attacking midfielder Mesut Ozil’s situation on Sky Sports Main Event (1:27pm, November 22, 2020).
The former Manchester United star, who now works as a pundit for Sky Sports, believes that Ozil has to be part of the Arsenal team for his creativity.
The German star has been left out of the Gunners’ Premier League and Europa League squads.
That could change in January when clubs will be able to change their squads, but manager Mikel Arteta was coy about the issue, as quoted in Metro.
The former Real Madrid star is training with the first team, and Evra believes that Arteta has to give the 32-year-old a chance.
Evra said on Sky Sports Main Event (1:27pm, November 22, 2020): ”I don’t want to talk about money but Ozil is living his best life right now and the fans I don’t think will be happy about that.
“At least give him a chance. He’s a professional, I think he’s training very well so give him a chance. Now to say he’s not running enough you say he’s not playing, but you have a lack of creativity – it doesn’t make sense to me.”
Back in Arsenal squad after January?
Arsenal were doing well without Ozil initially, but disappointing results against Aston Villa and Leicester City have opened the debate whether they could do with the German.
True, the former Madrid star is not a great ‘athlete’ and does not always track back and help out defensively, but he is a very creative player.
If Ozil is training well and is fit, then perhaps Arteta should look into bringing him back in the picture after January.
Having a creative player such as Ozil even on the substitutes’ bench would be beneficial for Arsenal.
