Jermaine Beckford has given his take on Michael Cuisance’s failed transfer to Leeds United on the Doing A Leeds podcast.

The former Leeds striker believes that it did not make financial sense for the Premier League club to do business with Bayern Munich regarding Cuisance given the condition from the German club.

The Daily Mail reported on October 1 that the Whites had pulled out of a deal to sign the French midfielder after medical tests raised concerns over a previous injury.

The West Yorkshire outfit had agreed to pay Bayern £18 million, with the German giants having a buyback clause inserted in the deal as well, according to the report.

The 21-year-old midfielder recently said that there was no problem with his medical at Leeds, as quoted on Sky Sports.

Beckford said on Doing A Leeds podcast: “If I am being honest, I don’t have the inside insight this time. However, just looking at the deal and the way it was structured, we were paying £20 million for him, and they inserted a £10 million buyback.

“Now, for me, that doesn’t make any sense. That says to me you are trying to get him back on a cheap. It was something like £10m, yeah, it was half, it was half.”

Moving on

Cuisance is a very talented and promising young midfielder, and the 21-year-old would have been a good signing for Leeds in the long run.

However, with the deal not having happened, the Whites need to move on and focus on the current season.

The 21-year-old will be looking to do well in France during his loan spell with Marseille, while Leeds will be aiming to push for a top-10 finish in the Premier League table this season.
