The international coach of Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has dropped a very mixed injury update on the player.
Partey suffered an ankle injury in a pre-season friendly against Chelsea earlier this month.
As a result, he missed Arsenal’s Premier League opener against Brentford last week and will also be absent for tomorrow’s visit of the European champions again.
The Gunners issued an update on the former Atletico Madrid powerhouse earlier in August, claiming he wouldn’t be back in full training before the month is out.
But the good news is that Ghana boss Charles Akonnor has told Goal.com that he more than likely be including Partey in his squad for World Cup qualifiers in September.
The bad news is that the 47-year-old coach has claimed that his injury ‘doesn’t look good’.
He said: “With Partey, yes, we’ve been talking. It doesn’t look too good. Still, there’s always Plan B. We have people who will take that position and do well, so we’ll wish him speedy recovery, get well soon. But it doesn’t look too good.”
Momentum
Arsenal would’ve been absolutely livid had their £45 million signing from last summer returned to training and received an international call immediately.
Partey had quite an indifferent first season in North London and much of that was because of repeated injuries, stifling his attempts to build any momentum.
But even when he did stay fit, the Ghanaian star didn’t exactly look like a £45 million player a lot of the time, but the ability is certainly there and fitness permitting, he could be far better this time around.
