Armstrong has endured a swift fall from grace at Celtic.
Last season was the best of Stuart Armstrong’s to date, for Celtic or anyone.
The midfielder scored 17 goals and created seven more in all competitions, as Brendan Rodgers’ Bhoys strolled to a domestic treble.
Armstrong even won his first Scotland caps off the back of his 2016-17 performances, but he has found this season much harder going.
Contract uncertainty – he’s since extended his deal until June 2019 – and the signing of Olivier Ntcham, combined with Callum McGregor’s revival have seen the 25-year-old slide down the Celtic Park pecking order.
Wednesday night’s 3-1 win against Hamilton Academical brought only Armstrong’s ninth league start of the season.
And although he assisted James Forrest’s goal with a trademark pass, it would appear that many Celtic supporters would not be at all concerned should he depart during the coming transfer window – especially if it leads to John McGinn’s arrival from Hibernian.
