Kyle Walker has shared his thoughts on Gareth Bale’s return to Tottenham and stated that he ‘doesn’t deserve’ the manner in which he was treated at Real Madrid.

The Manchester City defender told the ITV Football Podcast that during Bale’s first stint at Tottenham, he had ‘never seen’ anyone hit a ‘purple patch’ like the one he did.

Walker is now on international duty with England where he will come up against Wales on Thursday evening in a friendly, but Ryan Giggs will be without his star player.

Tottenham fans perhaps couldn’t believe their eyes when Bale returned to North London, as Walker was asked to share his thoughts on his former teammates’ return.

“I think he has got criticism when he probably doesn’t deserve it,” Walker told the ITV Football Podcast. “What he has gone on to achieve at Real Madrid speaks volumes as him as a person and as a player.

“The couple of seasons I got to have with him at Tottenham, it was just a purple patch. I have never seen anything like it. He hit the ball from anywhere and it was in the back of the net. The game-winners that he scored.

“For Wales [against England tomorrow] he’s a big miss, of course. But it’s something that we need to capitalise on.”

  3. Matt Doherty

  5. Gareth Bale

  6. Carlos Vinicius

Bale perhaps will go down as Britain’s greatest ever export, but in truth, the manner in which his Madrid career ended wasn’t pleasant at all.

In actual fact, he’s still a Madrid player because he is only on loan at Spurs, but unless something drastic happens, it will be a surprise to see him return to Spain.

But what is Madrid’s loss is now their former manager’s gain because Jose Mourinho will be hoping the Welshman can return back to full fitness, so he can unleash him alongside the already deadly duo of Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son.
