West Bromwich Albion are one of the sides that are interested in signing Ferland Mendy, but they also have been heavily linked with Leeds United’s Charlie Taylor.

According to Sky Sports’ live transfer feed (June 7th; 15:38), West Brom are one of the sides that are interested in signing Le Havre defender Ferland Mendy.
Sky Sports reports that Mendy is likely to cost around £7 million with the Ligue 2 side seemingly determined to hold onto one of their brightest prospects who is about to enter the final year of his contract.

So does West Brom’s presence in the running for the left-back provide the slightest hint that the Baggies are potentially expecting to miss out on signing Leeds defender Charlie Taylor this summer.
Taylor is out of contract at Elland Road in the very near future and appears to be Premier League-bound, with the Hawthorns arguably seeming to be his most likely destination with talks ongoing (via Express and Star).
However, despite Taylor being out of contract imminently, the two clubs will still need to agree a compensation fee that would have to be set by a tribunal if an agreement could not be reached.

But Tony Pulis has previously suggested that West Brom could give up trying to sign the Whites academy graduate if a tribunal looked to be the only way for a resolution to be found (via Express and Star).
So perhaps it is fair to assume that by targeting Mendy, the Baggies are starting to lose a little bit of hope that they will be able to reach an agreement with Leeds for Taylor and have decided to switch some of their attention to potential other targets.
Does West Brom’s Mendy interest suggest the Baggies are less hopeful about agreeing a deal for Taylor?
