The midfielder’s performance against Tottenham Hotspur was the perfect answer to his critics.
Arsenal’s acquisition of Tomas Rosicky from Borussia Dortmund in 2006 was heralded as the arrival of a superstar.
Unlike many of Wenger’s buys, he was proven quality and not just potential, even netting at that summer’s World Cup.
Almost six years have passed, filled with inconsistency, injuries, and rare flashes of brilliance.
I must admit I am a doubter of whether Rosicky has a future at Arsenal, even last summer I thought he should have been sold.
His non-performances in the first half of the season did little to dissuade me from that view.
Yet credit where it’s due, against Aston Villa in the FA Cup, and against Tottenham yesterday, he has put in, in my view, his two best showings in an Arsenal shirt in a long time.
And well overdue.
As a senior player he is one who should have stepped up at many of Arsenal’s weak moments over the last 12 months.
For my liking he goes missing far too often, and rarely plays well away from home.
Yet if he can keep up the level of performance he put in yesterday, and there is no reason why he should not, Arsenal should keep him.
Even if the club buy big in the summer he will remain a useful and experienced squad player.
But he has to continue to prove himself between now and the end of the season, because for me his future in an Arsenal shirt is not clear cut.
– Where do you stand, should Rosicky be kept or sold in the summer?
