Glenn Hoddle praised Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny on BT Sport 2 (11:04pm, October 22, 2020).
The former Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea midfielder was impressed with the display produced by Elneny during Arsenal’s 2-1 win against Rapid Vienna away from home in the Europa League on Thursday evening.
The Egypt international defensive midfielder did his job well in the middle of the park, and he also provided a brilliant ball for Hector Bellerin to deliver the assist for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s goal.
According to WhoScored, Elneny played one key pass, had a pass accuracy of 88.6%, won two headers, took 86 touches, attempted one dribble, and made five tackles, one interception and one clearance.
The 28-year-old gave a very disciplined performance for the Gunners, and Hoddle was impressed, suggesting that if he continues to play passes like the one he gave to Bellerin, then he could cement his place in manager Mikel Arteta’s starting lineup.
Hoddle said on BT Sport 2 (11:04pm, October 22, 2020): “That Elneny pass has got to be given some credit. He has done well.
“The manager has said, ‘You are for me. I am putting you in the team’. And hitting balls like that, he is going to stay in the team because he does the donkey work, but if he can hit killer balls like that, fantastic.”
Revitalised player
Elneny spent the 2019-20 campaign on loan at Besiktas, and it looked like that he had no future at Arsenal.
However, the 28-year-old has been a revitalised future at the Gunners and has been doing well for the Gunners.
According to WhoScored, the Egypt international defensive midfielder has played thrice in the Premier League and once in the Europa League for the Gunners so far this campaign.
