Fulham wonderkid Ryan Sessegnon is reportedly the subject of a surprise bid from Tottenham Hotspur – just days after Danny Rose cast doubt on his future.

As soon as that interview with The Sun reared its ugly head, Danny Rose’s Tottenham Hotspur future looked to be in serious doubt.

The England international left-back, who has evolved into one of Europe’s best under the coaching of Mauricio Pochettino, publically questioned Spurs’ ambition with the club yet to sign a single player in the transfer market while most of their title rivals spend big money on marquee additions.

Furthermore, Rose, born and raised in Leeds, stated a desire to return up north before the end of his career, leading to inevitable links with cash-flashing Manchester duo United and City.

And although Pochettino insisted that Rose’s comments have been forgiven, they may not necessarily have been forgotten.

The Sun reports that Spurs will not allow the 27-year-old to leave this summer but they will be acutely aware that Rose may be tempted by a switch to one of the club’s Premier League rivals if the North London extend their trophy drought into an eleventh year.

Therefore, you wonder whether this is behind their £25 million bid for Fulham’s teen sensation Ryan Sessegnon, as reported by The Mirror. Spurs have been linked with the 17-year-old for a number of months but the trail seemed to go cold recently, Sessegnon signing a new three-year contract in June.

As such, the sudden nature of the bid appears to suggest that Spurs have been shaken into life by Rose’s explosive comments. Sessegnon, who has been likened to former Spurs favourite Gareth Bale, enjoyed a sensational breakthrough campaign last season, scoring seven times in 30 games.

And the report adds that he could be a long-term replacement for Rose in Spurs’ squad.

Tottenham must surely fear Rose’s exit and their big-money, bolt-from-the-blue bid for Sessegnon suggests they have a contingency plan in place.
