Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers have barely used Lee Wallace this season.
Rangers boss Steven Gerrard was typically blunt when asked about Lee Wallace on Tuesday.
Speaking at Rangers’ Annual General Meeting, it was put to Gerrard by a fan that the club had treated Wallace poorly.
The 31-year-old has made just the one appearance in all competitions for the Gers this season – an injury-time substitution at Motherwell – and the manager claimed that he had better left-backs than the former Hearts star.
But does he?
Realistically, Gerrard only has one left-back – Borna Barisic, who cost a cool £2.2 million in the summer. He also has right-back Jon Flanagan, who has been playing on the opposite side of defence this season, and Andy Halliday, a central midfielder being played out of position.
But Wallace is the only other recognised and experienced left-back at Ibrox, and surely Gerrard can’t believe that Flanagan and Halliday are better than him.
Wallace was suspended by the club following a controversial row with then-manager Graeme Murty back in April, but disciplinary and injury issues aside, he can be an asset to the former Liverpool midfielder.
The sooner he realises it, the better.
