Everton’s recruitment has been heavily criticised, but it is not without merit.

There is an argument to suggest that for all Everton’s failings this season, Steve Walsh arguably deserves slightly more credit than he has got.

Everton fans have heavily criticised Walsh, with many calling for his departure.

The head of recruitment has had a mixed success record with his transfer dealings, and their lack of improvement has left a great deal of frustration around Goodison Park.

Walsh has had to deal with being named as one of the major reasons why Everton have failed this season.

However, the Toffees’ transfer business has not actually been all bad.

Jordan Pickford looks like an excellent addition, and Theo Walcott has unquestionably improved them since arriving in January.

While Michael Keane may not have had the greatest season, he has improved when playing alongside Phil Jagielka, and Gylfi Sigurdsson has also proved his worth over recent weeks.

Wayne Rooney may be ageing, but his transfer can also be considered a success, and Cenk Tosun is starting to hit form.

Granted, Everton appear to have signed some duds too – with Sandro Ramirez and Davy Klaassen both looking like particularly poor additions.

However, Everton didn’t pay a big fee for Sandro, and should be able to recoup their expenditure, and Klaassen is yet to really be given a chance.

And although Walsh has faced heavy criticism, Everton fans may have been slightly too harsh on their head of recruitment, as he has made some successful moves.
