Tottenham are said to be interested in Borussia Dortmund’s Matthias Ginter. What does it mean for Eric Dier?
The Daily Mail reports that Tottenham Hotspur have made an enquiry about signing versatile Borussia Dortmund player Matthias Ginter.
Ginter has also attracted interest from Dortmund’s fellow Bundesliga rivals Hoffenheim and it is understood the 23-year-old is valued at around £18m.

Yet by taking a closer look at the Germany international, do his attributes suggest he is being lined up as a readymade replacement for a current Spurs star who has been heavily linked with a move away?
Ginter is primarily a central defender, who is also comfortable playing at right-back or in defensive midfield. Sound familiar?
These are exactly the roles that Eric Dier has played in for Tottenham, initially operating on the right side of defence when first signed from Sporting Lisbon, before converting into midfield and then to a centre-back once manager Mauricio Pochettino switched to 3-4-3 last season.
Dier is reportedly a target for Manchester United, with the Express claiming that the Red Devils are still interested in the England international and are prepared to pay £50m for his services.
So while the Englishman has been a key player for Pochettino, if the Argentine had an alternative at the club with exactly the same attributes, who is exactly the same age and would contribute to a £32m overall profit, perhaps his departure would not be felt so strongly.
